St Richard’s Hospice and Wild in Art celebrated the artistic talents of Worcestershire and beyond on the Worcester Stands Tall public art trail.
For 10 weeks during summer 2018, Worcester’s streets, parks and open spaces were brought to life by giant giraffes and giraffe calves. Individually designed, beautifully created, by local artists for charity. All later auctioned off for a total of £210,000.

For this event I designed and painted one of the sculptures, sponsored by Hewitt Recruitment. My design was based on the giraffe’s distinctive coat pattern and the Worcester Pear. For this design I morphed the variable shapes of the giraffe’s coat pattern into pears, having chosen the shape of the pear in regards to the Worcester flag. The flag depicts three pears on a shield across a wavy floodplain, with the colours black, blue, green and white. Using the colours of the flag and pear pattern, I felt this design would offer a subtle reference to Worcester whilst also merging with the patterns of the giraffe.
